MPO To Host Workshops On Northeast Corridor Mobility
City planners are looking for ways for almost twice as many people to get around on Metro-area roads. Over the next 25 years, the Nashville area’s population is expected to grow by more than one million.
One place planners are focusing is the 30-mile stretch from East Nashville to Gallatin. The Metro Planning Organization kicks off a series of workshops in that area tonight.
Transportation planner Félix Castrodad says the city has to deal with growth proactively. By 2030, he says Nashville will be the size of Portland Oregon, or Denver Colorado.
“Those are big regions that have been investing in mass transit for a long time, so we might as well start learning from those other places, see what they’ve been doing and try to understand it.”
Castrodad says the Northeast Corridor will take a tailored mix of solutions, including additional roads and bus routes, and possibly rail service. He says the workshops aim to get a sense of how different neighborhoods want to develop in terms of land use, urban design, and economic development.
