Davis Explains Healthcare No Vote
Congressman Lincoln Davis has avoided commenting on his “no” vote against healthcare reform led by his own party.
Democrats in the House passed the bill this month without the help of 39 such Representatives, including Tennessee’s Bart Gordon, John Tanner and Lincoln Davis.
Congressman Davis represents the 4th District along the Cumberland Plateau and south of Nashville in Maury County and parts of Williamson County. He says the House health care bill didn’t go far enough in five areas: pre-existing conditions, small business insurance pools, community health clinics and insurance across state lines.
“We’ll let the states still regulate this, but open up your boundaries to competition and the fifth would be tort reform. A lot of those were not in the bill so therefore I could not support it.”
Davis and other conservative Blue Dog Democrats have struggled to balance the party’s agenda with the wants of their constituents. The three Tennessee Democrats who said “no” on healthcare overhaul come from parts of the state that voted overwhelmingly for Republican John McCain to be President.
