Vanderbilt football is pleading with fans to pack out LP Field for the Music City Bowl. The team is trying to shake its reputation for poor attendance in the hopes of getting to a top-tier bowl down the road.
Addressing some of the disappointment of not being invited to a more prestigious bowl game this year, Coach James Franklin reminded fans that bowl committees consider how many fans might show up. To make a case in future seasons, Franklin is asking alumni throughout the country to snap up tickets, but only through the school’s website.
“So they need to come through Vanderbilt so we can show how many tickets that we sold. I hate to get too much into the business of it with you, but that’s part of it.”
Franklin – never one to shy away from lofty goals – wants a sellout New Years Eve.
While Vanderbilt had one of its best season’s in school history, it’s still having to work harder than other SEC programs to fill the stands. And LP Field holds 30,000 more than Vanderbilt Stadium.
