Metro Nashville Property Owners Get Appraisals Lowered

Monday, July 20th, 2009, by Jacqueline Fellows

Most Davidson County property owners who complained their recent reappraisals were too high got some relief.

Metro reassesses home values every four years and this year it coincided with a steep decline in the housing market.

Out of the more than 13,500 complaints, nearly 58% got their property appraisal lowered. Metro’s property assessor, George Rooker, says the high number of complaints wasn’t surprising.

“With the instability in the real estate market and with the economy in the current downturn, we expected an increase.”

Some of those who complained but didn’t see their tax burden lowered have appealed to the Metro Board of Equalization. Decisions on those properties will be made by the end of this month.
