Metro Police tracked down two stolen laptops from the Election Commission headquarters late yesterday in Goodletsville.
Spokesman Don Aaron says a preliminary review of the machines shows voter information may be safe.
“We do not believe that the critical files were accessed from the information we have at this point.”
At least one of the computers has the full social security numbers of every registered voter in Nashville, along with names, addresses and dates of birth. Aaron says data specialists will continue their analysis of the computers through the weekend.
The suspect in the break-in, Robert Osbourne, was identified through DNA evidence left at the crime scene. The 45-year-old homeless man turned himself in to police yesterday after seeing his picture on TV and in the newspaper.
