About 50 ethnic Albanians gathered on the south steps of the Tennessee Capitol Building today, chanting “U.S.A!” They were celebrating the recognition of newly independent Kosovo.
They waved not only the U-S flag but a red flag with a two-headed eagle on it representing Albania.
Organizer Beqir Potka says the event was a celebration.
“U.S.A. has recognized Kosovo to be independent, to support us, we love them. We as U.S. citizens here, we are proud of that, to hear, and we came here, took our kids and our family, to thank them.”
The Albanians say they honor the U.S. for immediately recognizing the independence of Kosovo, in the face of disapproval from the states of Serbia and Russia.
