As Tennessee democrats return from their National Convention in Denver, many of the state’s republicans are getting ready to leave for theirs, which starts Monday.
22 year-old Alex McVeagh is leaving today for Minneapolis. This is his first convention, but his support of John McCain goes back to junior high.
“I was attracted to McCain back in 8th grade, this guy who was willing to do anything for his country. But being a McCain supporter, it got kind of dark there for awhile when he was pretty low in the pols, but honestly, to be able to campaign for your political hero.”
McVeagh’s love of politics is now his full-time job–he works for the State Republican Party. His support for McCain may be a little different than many of the other delegates. After former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson dropped out of the race in January, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee won Tennessee’s republican primary.
