The Tennessee Hospitality Association says the Nashville Board of Health jumped the gun on a menu regulation approved yesterday.
The regulation requires restaurants with more than fifteen locations to post nutritional information on their menus. If passed, the proposed Federal LEAN act would do something similar on a national scale.
Hospitality Association CEO Walter Baker says the association is not against posting nutritional information, but the Board of Health should have waited for the LEAN act so restaurants could avoid having to change their menus twice.
“To me it says one thing: that the Board of Health did not trust that the Congress was going to act, and therefore decided that they were going to do their own thing.”
Board of Health spokesman Brian Todd says restaurants change their menus frequently and could easily add the nutritional information.
Restaurants who fail to modify their menus before the 2010 deadline could face fines and penalties. To see the Federal LEAN act or for more information about Davidson County’s new menu regulations visit our website wpln.org.
