A man credited with keeping the state’s nearly $30 billion budget ship-shape is moving on just as the head of an office that puts price tags on proposed laws jumps to the private sector.
Bill Bradley has worked for the state 37 years, serving as budget director under three governors. In a statement, the Department of Finance and Administration says Bradley – who is 64 – requested to move into a more advisory role in order to devote more time to his family.
His replacement is a less-senior budget wonk, but someone who has worked 14 years crunching numbers for the General Assembly – David Thurman. But first, Thurman will temporarily fill the role of Fiscal Review director.
That’s because Jim White – who spent eight years doing the job – resigned this week to work for a Nashville law firm. Fiscal review acts almost like an umpire for the state legislature, coming up with unbiased cost estimates of proposed legislation.
