A political newcomer in Tennessee’s 8th District soundly defeated a longtime state legislator. Frog Jump farmer Stephen Fincher will be the first Republican congressman from Northwest Tennessee in a century.
Some voters like Stacia Daniel of Charlotte didn’t care so much about who the candidates are but who they represent.
“I think a lot of people are looking for a change. And we had a change when Obama came in and I think we’re ready for another change now.”
Daniel says she couldn’t vote for Democratic State Senator Roy Herron because she’s trying to shift power in Washington to the GOP.
Herron even resorted to pledging he would not vote for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House, but that pitch didn’t seem to matter to voters.
Fincher won with roughly 60% of the vote and takes over the seat from Rep. John Tanner, a Democrat who is retiring after 11 terms.
