A new poll shows the race for Nashville’s next mayor is tighter than ever.
The poll was commissioned by the campaign of former legal director Karl Dean.
Compared to the campaign’s last poll in March, it shows an increase in the number of people who say they don’t know who to vote for-up six points to 19 percent. That places the undecided results at a higher percentage than all but one of the candidates.
Bob Clement retained his lead, but support for the former congressman dropped from 34 to 29 percent in this poll. He’s followed at 16 percent by both councilman Buck Dozier and vice mayor Howard Gentry. Dean and councilman David Briley have essentially switched places. Last time, Dean was the only candidate with single-digit support. Now he’s up to 12 percent, while Briley’s numbers have dropped from 11 to 7 percent.
The poll did not include candidate Kenneth Eaton.
The election for mayor and Metro council is August 2.
