Police say they’ve taken down a 31-man drug ring based in Nashville and Franklin.
It took 300 federal and local law enforcement officials to arrest at least 24 of the individuals today. They also seized 25 vehicles, several boats, real estate, assault weapons and body armor.
District Attorney Paul O’Brien says the highly-organized narcotics ring had 6-million dollars worth of drugs and cash on hand.
“The indictment alleges a conspiracy to import multi-hundred kilograms of cocaine and multi-hundred pounds of marijuana into the middle district of Tennessee directly from Mexico.”
O’Brien says proceeds from the sale of the illegal drugs were laundered through businesses in Middle Tennessee, though none are named in the indictments. He says the investigation began on the streets of Franklin and Nashville and led authorities to Mexico.
All but one of the men charged are confirmed U-S citizens. If convicted, they face sentences ranging from 10 years to life in prison.
