Non-profits serving Nashville’s homeless community received a much-needed injection of federal funding today, totaling 3.3-million dollars.
The money will support roughly 460 housing units. The funds flow through the Metro Development and Housing Agency. Director Phil Ryan says only a small portion of the money will add new units to the housing stock already available to the homeless.
“There is some increase here, but we’re coming at it from a variety of angles, preserving existing units as well.”
Ryan says the grants will provide more than a thousand individuals addiction treatment, employment assistance and transportation.
