Nashville’s police program for communicating with limited-English communities is among the nation’s best, according to a new report by the Vera Institute of Justice.
Under the El Protector Program, two Spanish-fluent officers work with community leaders and businesses in parts of Nashville with large Latin-American populations.
The officers also routinely appear on Spanish radio, as part of their outreach effort.
The department also partners with Cricket Communications, which provides cell phones to volunteers who translate in non-felony situations.
