Metro Nashville Public Schools is preparing a wish list for how to spend its latest round of COVID-19 relief funds. But school leaders are still soliciting feedback from parents and nonprofits to figure out what their highest priorities are.
The district is being allocated $276 million in reimbursement funds, with about $43 million earmarked for charter schools. That’s on top of the $149 million Metro Schools has been allocated so far, including $22.5 million for charter schools.
Initial investments were used to keep schools and support services operational during the height of the pandemic. Now, the district is considering new, big picture improvements — schools are eyeing investments in summer learning for future years, or putting more money into math and reading programs.
There’s also interest in paying for more social workers and counseling services on a contract basis, or using the funding to keep laptops in the hands of teachers and students.
Metro Schools spent the week hosting a series of online community engagement meetings to present its investment plans, although many parents didn’t attend. Those who didn’t can submit feedback online through Sunday.
Priorities have to be submitted to the state for approval by the end of the month.
