Search-and-rescue efforts resumed Sunday in Humphreys County after deadly and unprecedented flooding the day before, and relief efforts are beginning to take shape.
The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee activated its Tennessee Emergency Response Fund to help flood survivors. Contributions can be made online and will be funneled to frontline nonprofits that work on relief. The fund was first formed in 2008.
In Waverly, collection sites have formed for items to be donated to displaced residents.
The Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office says items can be placed and picked up at the Army National Guard center at 1421 US-70, just west of Waverly Center High School.
And the Humphreys County Emergency Management Agency says items can be taken to the old Humphreys County Nursing Home next to Three Rivers Hospital on Highway 13.
Officials in Waverly have also set up a staging area for volunteers to help with recovery and cleanup efforts in the Dolalr Tree parking lot at 515 West Main Street. Those interested in lending a hand are encouraged to call 931-888-8011 or 931-888-8012 for volunteer assignments.
Meanwhile, the Community Resource Center says it is preparing to deliver relief. The organization has refreshed its wishlist and is asking for volunteers to be ready to package supplies this week.
Those who need help with clean up are asked to call the crisis clean-up number: 615-338-7404 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The American Red Cross is assisting with four shelters and has set up a disaster helpline at 1-800-985-5990. The organization has an online registry where survivors can register and send messages about their well-being.
Flooding shelters housed 89 people Saturday night, according to the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency. They are located at:
