Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been chosen to give the keynote speech at this year’s Tennessee GOP Statesmen’s Dinner on July 14.
DeSantis announced his candidacy for president last month on Twitter — in a live meeting with the platform’s owner, Elon Musk. He says he wants to “make America, Florida.”
Before that happened, several state elected officials in Tennessee had already announced their support for DeSantis to be the next president of the United States. Some have either endorsed his run or given praise for his ability to lead in Florida.
A Vanderbilt poll showed that Tennesseans favored the Florida governor 54% to former President Donald Trump’s 41%.
Republican Congressmen Kevin McCarthy and Steve Scalise as well as Vice President Mike Pence have given keynote speeches at the event in past years.
