With polls officially closed and results starting to roll in, four members of the 11-candidate mayoral field have emerged as clear frontrunners.
Freddie O’Connell has taken an early lead with 27.7% of the vote. He is followed by Alice Rolli with 18.2%.
These totals are based on early voting totals — the first results of the night to arrive. They represent the 57,000 people who voted during last month’s two-week early voting period.
Close behind O’Connell and Rolli is Matt Wiltshire with 17.4% of the vote. He is trailed by Jeff Yarbro at 12.4%.
Two of the four leading candidates are already elected officials. Freddie O’Connell currently represents District 19 in Nashville’s Metro Council. Jeff Yarbro has represented District 21 in the Tennessee Senate since 2015.
While Alice Rolli and Matt Wiltshire have never won elected office, both have experience in either state or local politics. Alice Rolli, who has positioned herself as a conservative option in the nonpartisan race, served as campaign manager for Tennessee Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander during his 2014 election bid and worked under Gov. Bill Haslam. Matt Wiltshire, who was the first candidate to launch his campaign this election, previously worked for the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency on affordable housing.
Additional tallies from ballots cast at polling places today are expected over the coming hours. WPLN News will have reporters on scene at candidate watch parties tonight.
