Freddie O’Connell became Metro Nashville’s 10th mayor early Monday morning in a private swearing-in ceremony that took under a minute.
Former mayor Judge David Briley administered the oath, and presented the new mayor with an original 1962 Metropolitan Nashville charter.
The new mayor has announced that he plans to move his team into office before the upcoming city council meeting next week, completing the transition between administrations.
O’Connell’s inauguration is scheduled for Saturday and will be open to the public. The event will take place at Public Square Park and will feature food trucks, live music and what’s described as a “Celebration of City Services.”
