Nashville voters have decided on clerk, judge and school board seats, among others, in the latest election.
Just over 38,000 people turned out to cast ballots. More than half — roughly 22,000 — took advantage of the early voting period, which wrapped last week. Turnout was low across the board, with only 8% of Davidson County voters participating. (Higher profile races like mayor and council seats are on a different election cycle, and will be up for vote in 2027. Races for governor, statehouse and congressional seats will be taken up later this year.)
While Tuesday was technically a partisan primary, there were no Republicans running, so the following Democratic primary winners are on track to take office.
Some contests proved competitive, like Davidson County Clerk, which former Metro Councilmember Sharon Hurt won decisively. Longtime clerk Brenda Wynn is retiring. Joseph Day narrowly held his role as Circuit Court Clerk.
For judicial seats, Jodie Bell was re-elected to the General Sessions court, while Dawn Deaner and Corletra Mance beat out incumbents to reach bench seats on the Criminal and Circuit courts, respectively.
On Nashville’s school board, incumbent Berthena Nabaa-McKinney held onto her vice chair position, and Cheryl Mayes was reelected in District 6. Two others board members, Rachael Anne Elrod and Erin O’Hara Block, won unopposed. The results maintain a school board with steady resistance to expanding charter schools.
