A former Ft. Campbell soldier will stand trial in federal court on charges of murder, conspiracy, rape, and obstruction of justice.
While he was a member of the 101st Airborne serving in Iraq this spring, twenty-one year old Steven Green allegedly raped, killed and burned the body of a fourteen-year old Iraqi girl, and killed three of her family members during the attack. Several other soldiers who participated in the attack are facing charges in military courts, but since Green was discharged from the Army in May, he is no longer subject to military prosecution.
A grand jury indicted Green on six counts today. His arraignment is scheduled to take place Wednesday in Louisville. If he is found guilty, Green could face the death sentence.
