A year-and-a-half after opening its museum in downtown Nashville, the Musicians Hall of Fame has named its first class of inductees.
The geographically diverse group includes members of the Nashville A-Team, the Wrecking Crew from Los Angeles, the Memphis Boys and the Tennessee Two. The groups of musicians played on hits by the Beach Boys, Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash, to name a few.
Museum owner Joe Chambers says as a new institution, he’s got a backlog of musicians to honor but says he wants to do it fairly. Chambers says hundreds of ballots went to experienced musicians around the country.
“Even though historically its easy to see once you hear who’s going in that it’s a no- brainer, we still had to have the votes from their peers to make it something that they know was not a deal made in the back from of a record label somewhere, you know.”
Many of the honorees will play at an awards show next month in the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.
Chambers opened the hall of fame Museum in 2005 as a way to honor the players and not just the front-men.
