Gibson Guitar has filed another lawsuit to recoup on alleged patent infringement from makers and distributors of the video games Guitar Hero and Rock Band.
The latest suit names EA Games, MTV Networks and Harmonix Music Systems for illegally using patented technology.
Nashville-based Gibson contends the virtual-reality concert experience of playing along with notes moving on the screen infringes on a 1999 patent.
Activision, which makes Guitar Hero, has sold more than a billion-dollars-worth of the games since 2005. Another suit earlier this week calls on big box retailers such as Wal-Mart and Target to stop selling the wildly-popular games.
Gibson has been a high-profile partner of Activision, even allowing the controllers to be styled after its iconic guitars. But a Gibson statement says the video game publisher doesn’t want to negotiate a new licensing agreement.
