The Metro School Board has approved a new pay plan that will give bonuses to teachers in hard-to-fill subjects at struggling schools.
The bonuses are targeted at recruitment and retention of math teachers, and instructors in English Language Learning and special ed.
All 7th through 12th grade math teachers newly hired or assigned to high priority schools will get a one-time 4-thousand dollar bonus in the fall. Fully certified special education instructors at the struggling schools and ELL teachers will also receive the bonuses.
The supplement for National Board Certification also doubles under the plan from two to 4-thousand dollars.
The new pay plan goes into effect for the 2008-2009 school year.
