MGM Industries of Hendersonville manufactures pre-framed windows and doors
A window and door manufacturer in Hendersonville is betting on a construction comeback. MGM industries will add 75 jobs over the next three years.
Vice president Joe Gaskins says the company’s best year for it’s pre-framed windows and doors was 2006. He says he never thought it would take so long for a turnaround to begin, but it has. And not with new homes, which was once the company’s bread and butter.
“People have to have a place to live. That’s why the apartment sector has gone up so much over the last two to three years, and that’s been the strong sector.”
MGM plans to invest $3 million in the company as it adds jobs. The state Department of Economic and Community Development has agreed to a $30,000 grant that the company will use to train new employees.
ECD Commissioner Bill Hagerty has talked about putting a new emphasis on directing state grants to existing mid-size businesses. After touring the plant, Hagerty says MGM is the prime example.
“This is the perfect type of firm that the state should partner with. This firm has been fiscally conservative and found a way to grow in a very difficult environment.”
A million dollars of the company’s own investment will establish a new paint product specifically made for vinyl siding.
