Sharon Gentry celebrates her re-election to the School Board District 1 seat
A nearly three-decade tenure on the school board came to an end yesterday. Ed Kindall lost his seat to fellow board member Sharon Gentry. The two were pitted against each other in District 1 after its boundaries were redrawn.
Gentry is an IT Manager for Hospital Corporation of America and has a Doctoral degree in education from Tennessee State University. Gentry calls her North Nashville district “the poster-child for Metro Public Schools” and says her mission is to close “the opportunity gap” by ensuring “equitable resources across all of [the] schools.”
“You know I always hope and I try to be that voice that reminds us that we have to make decisions that benefit the district as a whole, because if District 1 or District 7 or District 9 or District 2 is the one that’s knocking the scores out of the park, it does nothing, it says nothing for Nashville-Davidson County Public Schools as a whole.”
Gentry’s husband, Howard, who ran unopposed as the Davidson Criminal Court Clerk, managed her campaign.
