Members of Tennessee’s congressional delegation crossed party lines yesterday on a vote to allow the FDA to regulate tobacco. Republicans Zach Wamp and John Duncan voted with most of Tennessee’s Democrats to approve the bill in the U.S. House of Representatives. Only one Democrat, Pall Mall’s Lincoln Davis, voted against the measure.
The bill allows the Food and Drug Administration to regulate the ingredients and the marketing of cigarettes and other tobacco products.
The bill still must pass the Senate, and it faces opposition from the Bush administration.
