Work on the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant’s Unit Two reactor is finished ahead of schedule and under budget.
The Tennessee Valley Authority replaced four large steam generators that had reached the end of their lifespan. The $376 million update involved lifting the top off the containment building with a massive crane.
Meanwhile, the utility is still working to build the second unit at another of its nuclear facilities. The Watts Barr project fell three years behind schedule and will cost at least 2 billion more than was initially projected. Officials now say it’s on track to go online in late 2015.
