Tennessee health officials announced the state’s first probable instance of swine flu is now its first confirmed case of the virs.
Last week, a Harding Academy student was identified as Tennessee’s first possible case of the H1N1 virus. The school closed and remains off limits through this week.
In a statement issued Sunday by the Tennessee Department of Health, Commissioner Susan Cooper said the state’s public health lab will now be able to confirm cases of the swine flu with flu kits provided by the Centers for Disease Control.
State health officials also said there are now eight probable cases of the virus in Tennessee: six in Davidson County; one in Knox County, and one in Shelby County.
The patients have a good prognosis.
