The prospect of a Bus Rapid Transit system in Nashville is drawing attention from a big philanthropy based in New York. The Rockefeller Foundation is looking at several cities, and running a phone survey in Nashville on what arguments might sell taxpayers on a BRT line.

It’s not clear just how much Rockefeller is spending to phone up what it deems a representative sample of Nashville – around 600 people.
Operator: “One final time, with everything that you’ve heard, would you support or oppose the proposal to bring a BRT to Nashville?”
Right now the city is hoping to get federal money to run a bus line with its own dedicated lanes east and west across town. The survey asks how worthy a public investment in Bus Rapid Transit might be, as well as what people think of Mayor Karl Dean – a vocal BRT backer.
An official with the mayor’s office says while they didn’t ask for the research, they’re flattered Rockefeller is interested what the city thinks.
