Middle Tennessee GM dealers have remained quiet about receiving Friday’s FedEx delivery terminating their franchise agreement. Only Team Chevrolet in Smyrna, which is in bankruptcy proceedings itself, has confirmed such a letter was received.
Others who didn’t get a letter are considering no news to be good news. Shannon Black is the office manager at Peppers Automotive Group in Paris. She says everyone has been on edge waiting to hear from GM.
“We’ve had to lay off a few people in our dealership and we’re just kind of down to a minimum amount of people to begin with. And of course the people that’s left is the crew that’s been here forever. But it kind of gave us some relief to know we’re not at least in the first round.”
Black says she has taken calls from customers as far away as Arizona, who spend time at near-by Kentucky Lake in the summer. She says they want to know if Peppers will be around to service their vehicles.
GM notified 25% of its dealer network that its sales contracts would end in fall of 2010, but the owners are not required to make the information public.
