June Unemployment Rate Rises in Most Tennessee Counties

Unemployment rose in 84 Tennessee counties last month.

The highest rate continues to be in Perry County with 22.1% out of work.

Perry was actually one of eight counties in the state to see a slight decrease in June. Officials had hoped for an even greater drop, after Governor Phil Bredesen pumped thousands of stimulus dollars into the county for more than 300 temporary jobs.

Davidson County’s rate rose slightly in June to 9.4%. Williamson County continues to have the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 8.4%, but even that was an increase over May. That month Williamson showed 6.8% of its residents out of work.

Eighty-two counties in the state had an unemployment rate of more than 10% in June.
