Germantown Republican Paul Stanley will leave the state senate early next month.
He sent a letter of resignation Tuesday, a week after his affair with a legislative intern became public knowledge.
The woman’s boyfriend has been charged with threatening to blackmail the senator. Stanley reported the extortion attempt to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and in the process admitted to having the affair.
Paul Stanley will leave office August 10th. A special election will be held to fill the seat for the 15 months that remain in his term.
