Ticket scalpers may make more money off Keith Urban’s benefit concert for the Country Music Hall of Fame than the institution itself.
The $25-seats sold out on Ticketmaster within an hour of going on sale Wednesday. Hundreds were immediately posted on the ticket reselling site Stub Hub for prices ranging from $60 to $5,000.
The concert line up includes Urban and big names like Faith Hill, Taylor Swift and Brad Paisley. Nearly all of the proceeds will go directly to the Nashville-based Hall of Fame.
As he announced the concert Monday, Urban said he wanted tickets to be affordable for fans.
Hall of Fame director Kyle Young says in a statement the fact that tickets may be scalped is disappointing, but it’s an all-too-common occurrence “we can’t control.”
As recently as last month, Ticketmaster initiated a new technology that attempts to block the computers of scalpers from snapping up tickets with specialized software.
