Brentwood Republican Representative Marsha Blackburn is welcoming the President’s Afghan troop surge. But Congressman Lincoln Davis is just one of many Democrats skeptical of the idea.
Davis, from Pall Mall, wouldn’t say whether he supports the President’s call for 30,000 more troops. He says President Obama has boosted troop levels before and Afghanistan is still in trouble. And he’s not sure whether that country will ever have a stable central government. That’s why Davis was looking to the President’s plans for eventually pulling out.
“We can’t stay there forever. We will either exit broke and defeated or we can exit as a winner.”
Republican Marsha Blackburn says America has to focus on the mission before thinking about leaving.
“We need to focus on winning and doing it as quickly and as completely as we possibly can and bring these troops home in victory.”
President Obama wants to begin withdrawing American forces after 18-onths. And administration officials will be making their way to Congress to give war wary lawmakers more details about the strategy.
