Sgt. Owens (provided by DoD)
A 21-year-old soldier from Fort Campbell was killed this week in Afghanistan. It marks the post’s first casualty in a new wave of deployments.
More than 20,000 soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division will head to Afghanistan over the next few months for year-long deployments.
The 3rd Brigade Combat Team was the first to leave. Sgt. Vincent Owens of Arkansas was a driver assigned to the unit. He was wounded Monday when his vehicle came under direct fire. He died later that day at a forward operating base in eastern Afghanistan.
Owens is survived by his wife, Kaitlyn.
