Memphis-based FedEx plans to handle 22 million packages on its busiest day this year, according to an announcement made by the company.
With more people planning to do their holiday shopping online, FedEx expects to move an even bigger pile of presents. Spokesman Patrick Fitzgerald says the busiest day will double the volume from 2007.
“Every year it gets tougher, but it’s why we prepare for it year-round. And we’re proud that our team, every year, has been able to deliver. And we expect the same this year.”
Online sales are projected to increase by 15 percent over last Christmas season, and that shopping is coming earlier than usual.
For the last few years, the heaviest day for FedEx has fallen roughly 10 days before Christmas. This year, the busiest day is projected to be Dec. 2.
