An automotive supplier announced plans Wednesday to build a manufacturing facility in Murfreesboro. NHK Seating of America expects to employ more than 200 workers by 2015.
As the name suggests, NHK makes seats for cars and trucks, more specifically seat frames. The plant will primarily supply parts to Nissan. The manufacturing site will be at the intersection of I-24 and Joe B. Jackson Parkway, which has been shopped to all kinds of companies, most recently Harley Davidson. The Rutherford County Industrial Development Board lured NHK with tax abatements worth more than $2 million.
The Japanese auto supplier plans to begin construction on the $54 million facility in October. More than 160 Japanese companies now operate in Tennessee, employing some 35,000 workers, according to state figures.
