Wednesday Fort Campbell holds one of its largest remembrance ceremonies since the monthly events began. Families and soldiers on post honor 14 killed in Afghanistan.
Sgt. Marvin Calhoun died in a Blackhawk crash. He was a construction equipment repairer. Two of the men were killed by what’s described as a “homicide bomber.”
Specialist Deangelo Snow died when his unit was attacked by small arms fire. The 22-year-old Snow was acting as gunner, though his job in the Army is that of quartermaster. Specialist Shannon Chihuahua was a combat medic, killed when his unit was attacked by rocket propelled grenades.
Of the fourteen dead, most are from the 1st and 2nd Brigade Combat Teams of the 101st Airborne. They died in the deadliest year for Fort Campbell troops since Vietnam.
