Nashville Airport Authority is trying to keep up with the flood of tourists and business travellers that have made Nashville International one of the fastest growing airports in the country.
As part of a larger expansion plan, BNA launched the construction of a new concourse on Wednesday. The site will have six domestic gates and is expected to be completed by August 2020.
“This is only the beginning, we have got a lot more to come,” Bobby Joslin, MNAA board of Commissioners chair, said.
The next stage of the development calls for a central terminal and a permanent international arrivals facility.
Construction is already underway on a parking and transportation center. There are also plans for an office plaza and a 300-room hotel.
Mayor David Briley says the expansion sets the stage for future growth.
“We have seen over the years our community make investments in itself and build an airport that is not really a Nashville asset anymore,” Briley said. “You see it really as truly one of the prime movers of economic development in the region and in the state.”
