Nashville International Airport is showing off some of its new screening software. The airport’s new body scanners have now been outfitted with the latest upgrade.
New screens only show a generic outline of passengers instead of the more revealing images that previously were viewed by officers in another room.
Transportation Security Administration spokesman Jon Allen says the upgrade should solve many of the privacy complaints. He says it may help lines move faster too since the image doesn’t have to be sent elsewhere, requiring a TSA officer to radio back.
“In many cases, by the time passengers step out of the machine, the determination has been made as to whether they’re clear and whether they’re able to proceed on their way.”
The screen that highlights potential problems is also now visible to the passenger. Allen says that should help people understand why they might need an additional pat down.
