Environmentalists have officially dropped their lawsuit against the city of Franklin over contamination of the Harpeth River. An out-of-court settlement appeared to be in the works in March, though neither side would comment at the time.
A
joint statement from the city and the Harpeth River Watershed Association says the resolution ends a 2014 Clean Water Act claim. The association accused the city of polluting the river by exceeding sewage discharge limits. And the city of Franklin counter-sued, saying they were coerced into agreeing to tighter restrictions.
Both sides are still participating in a study on the health of the Harpeth River led by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.
