LifePoint’s new headquarters would be just inside Davidson County.
Brentwood-based LifePoint Hospitals is getting the fanfare of a corporate relocation for moving three miles down the road. Tuesday Mayor Karl Dean announced at a press conference the hospital chain will consolidate its three Williamson County offices into one building just inside the Nashville city limits.
“The LifePoint hospital support center will bring additional tax dollars to Davidson County, add more than 400 jobs to our county, and advance our efforts to create new jobs.”
The seven-story headquarters would be located off Old Hickory Boulevard in a relatively new development called Seven Springs Park. Construction is supposed to be complete two years from now.
Mayor Dean has often tried to rise above competition with surrounding counties, particularly Williamson, saying that the region benefits no matter what. Asked if LifePoint’s move is anything more than construction of a new building, Dean downplayed the significance of hopping counties.
“That’s the decision they made. They had to build it somewhere. They picked Nashville and we’re pleased by that.”
LifePoint was offered a property tax break to make the move, though the Metro Council still has to give its approval. The legislation is expected to be filed Wednesday.
The state’s department of Economic and Community Development also had a hand in the deal, though Commissioner Bill Hagerty says LifePoint will have to create new jobs in order to get tax credits on the state level.
“Incremental job growth is what’s planned here, so that’s why we’re teamed up with them is to try to put in place incentives to make sure new jobs do come into the area.”
Right now, LifePoint only plans to move its existing 400 employees to the new $48 million headquarters.
While not adding jobs right away, the 12-year-old hospital chain has been expanding, recently acquiring Sumner Regional Medical Center and entering a joint venture with Duke University.
