A charter school director from California wants to start a network of new schools in Nashville.
Todd Dickson runs Summit Prepartory Charter High, which has been lauded as a national example by Newsweek and the documentary Waiting for Superman. He was recruited to come to Nashville by the Tennessee Charter School Incubator. That’s the organization Mayor Karl Dean founded with hopes of raising the quality of the state’s charter operators.
The Incubator will support Dickson for two years while he works out the details of establishing a group of eight to ten schools. If all goes according to plan, the first one would open in 2014.
It’s the second network of new charters proposed for the city. Arizona-based Great Hearts Academies is also looking into opening five to ten schools in Nashville.
