Richard Land Radio Program Cancelled After Trayvon Martin Remarks

The Southern Baptist Convention has cancelled a radio call-in show hosted by Richard Land. The denomination has also reprimanded Land for racially charged comments he made after the shooting of Trayvon Martin.

On March 31st, Land accused the President and black leaders of exploiting Martin’s death for political gain.

A committee investigating the matter said in a statement that “damage was done to the state of race relations in the Southern Baptist Convention,” which is the country’s largest protestant denomination.

After reviewing the purpose of Land’s weekly show, the committee found it’s “not congruent with the mission” of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, which Land leads.

Aside from being reprimanded for inflammatory comments, Land has also been scolded for lifting his words from someone else’s editorial without attribution. The committee says Land should have “conformed to a higher standard.”
