Nabil Fahmy, Egypt’s Ambassador to the U.S.

When Israel temporarily postponed its planned incursion into the northern Gaza strip yesterday, to allow negotiations to continue over the fate of a kidnapped soldier, it was in response to an appeal from Egypt to let diplomacy run its course. According to Egypt’s ambassador to the United States, diplomacy is one of the many roles Egypt plays in the Middle East. WPLN’s Rebecca Bain reports.

Buena Vista Elementary “Save Our History” Grant

It’s lights, cameras and action this morning for the fourth graders at Buena Vista Elementary School. Since January, they’ve been researching the two hundred year history of their North Nashville neighborhood; today, the History Channel’s in town to film what they’ve learned. Tuning the Laura Turner Concert Hall

Tuning a concert hall is a lot like playing a violin well – it’s not enough to hit the right notes. The sound must have clarity and resonance and warmth. Which is why the acousticians who designed the new concert hall at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center have been dashing from seat to seat since last week, making sure the hall’s sound is as perfect as promised. Egypt Exhibit at the Frist

The ancient Egyptians created huge pyramids, countless statues and priceless pieces of art to ensure they would not be forgotten. Today, King Tut, Amenhotep, Nefertiti, and Cleopatra are familiar names thousands of years after they walked the earth. But a less familiar, though equally important pharaoh has center stage at the new Egpytian exhibit at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts. WPLN’s Rebecca Bain reports.
