A funeral will be held Saturday for a young soldier from Chapel Hill, Tenn., who died in a helicopter accident. Specialist Jeremy Tomlin had served in the Army for five years.

Thousands of fish have been showing up dead on the banks of two Tennessee lakes. The fish are silver carp, an invasive species and target of an intense, nationwide eradication effort. But wildlife authorities are still worried as to why so many are dying off.

Plans to set up a school voucher program are dead in the Tennessee state legislature, once again. The proposal would have created a pilot program for low-income students assigned to struggling schools in Memphis. They would’ve been able to use the vouchers in private schools.

Nashville Police To Get Major Boost In Proposed City Budget

Nashville’s police department would grow substantially in the mayor’s newly proposed budget. In her annual “State of Metro” address, Megan Barry called for the hiring of 22 new officers to work specifically on foot patrols within neighborhoods, plus 48 more regular-duty officers.
