Nashville High Schoolers Give Up Phones For A Day — See How They Survived

Listen The “digital cleanse” has become a popular challenge at colleges, churches, and fitness clubs, where groups organize specific days to disconnect from technology. Now, 42 freshmen students at Nashville’s Maplewood High School can say they’ve tested themselves after unplugging from their cellphones for 24 hours.

Another Target Audience For Tennessee Promise: Foster Kids

Listen More than 57,000 high school seniors have signed up for free community college so far, with applications closing Monday at midnight. In Tennessee Promise’s second year, one state agency hopes the popularity of the program will rub off on foster kids, a segment of the population that often struggles with continuing their education.

TSU Lays Out How It Plans To Make Campus Safer After Latest Shooting

Listen Tennessee State University will build additional fencing around the perimeter of campus, increase room checks for weapons, and enforce a campus ID policy by instituting fines. The school announced a 10-point safety plan Friday following last week’s shooting that killed a 19-year-old and injured three students.

Listen Hospitals in Tennessee are generally pretty good at protecting patients from injuries, accidents and infections, according to a new hospital safety report card from the nonprofit Leapfrog Group. It gave most facilities in the state As and Bs. But it did fail one: Nashville General Hospital.

VW Commits To Chattanooga Plant As Tennessee Lawmakers Heap Praise On Troubled Automaker

Instead of questions about deceiving regulators, Tennessee lawmakers are concerned what effect the worldwide scandal might have on VW’s only U.S. plant, which is in Chattanooga.
