Murray’s Recall Election Moves Forward

Metro Councilwoman Pam Murray failed to convince a judge that a recall election against her should be stopped.

More than a thousand signatures were gathered to force a recall against Murray for what her opponents called “dereliction of duties.” At issue was the phase, “while living and working in Detroit, Michigan,” which was added to some of the petitions. Murray’s lawyers argued all the petitions needed to contain the same language. Davidson County Chancery Court Judge Ellen Hobbs Lyle, in her decision yesterday, said the phrase didn’t change the intrinsic reason stated on the petition.

The recall election is set for November 12, 2009.
