The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation released its annual report on crime today. It found that overall crime in Tennessee is down by 6-percent. The bureau received crime and arrest data from cities and counties across the state then compiled it into a 500-page report. Crimes are categorized as personal, property, or societal crimes. The report covers the period of January – December of 2005.
TBI Spokeswoman Jennifer Johnson says this year’s Crime in Tennessee report provides more detail than in previous years.
“Back when we first started, we might have the number of homicides but we might not be able to tell you how many were domestic, now we can tell you that. And also you can see what time of day certain types of crime are more likely to happen. You can find out the location where a homicide is more likely to happen, which I think is also good information. So, there’s really a wealth of information in there if people take the time to sit down and look at it.”
According to the report, Metro Nashville also saw a reduction in crime – specifically, there were fewer murders, car thefts, and aggravated assaults in 2005. To view the entire report, go to tbi.state.tn.us.
